Plain answers about paying for therapy out-of-pocket, using out-of-network benefits and getting reimbursed, so cost doesn't stand between you and getting started.
Short version: I accept Aetna employer (non-marketplace) plans in Florida, Pennsylvania, and California. For every other plan, you pay per session and I send a superbill each month that you can submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement.
Do you accept insurance?
I accept Aetna employer (non-marketplace) plans in Florida, Pennsylvania, and California. For all other plans I am an out-of-network provider: you pay for sessions directly, and I give you the documentation you need to request reimbursement from your insurer.
What does a session cost?
My fees are shared during the free 15-minute consultation, so you know the cost before you decide to begin. There is no charge or obligation for the consultation. Request a consultation or call (813) 906-9810.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is an itemized receipt for your sessions. It includes the session dates, the service codes, a diagnosis code, my license information and the amount you paid, which is what most insurers require to process an out-of-network claim.
I send superbills automatically each month. You submit them to your insurer yourself, usually through the insurer's online portal or by mail.
Will my insurance reimburse me?
Many employer-sponsored PPO and POS plans include out-of-network mental health benefits, but coverage varies a great deal from plan to plan. Before you begin, call the member-services number on your insurance card and ask:
- Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?
- Do I have an out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met?
- After the deductible, what percentage of the session fee is reimbursed? Is it based on an “allowed amount” or “usual and customary” rate rather than my full fee?
- Is there a limit on sessions per year?
- Is a referral or pre-authorization required?
- How do I submit claims (portal, mail or app), and how long do they take?

Why do some people choose an out-of-network therapist?
- Choice of fit and specialty. You pick a therapist for their training and approach, including specialized treatment such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), rather than for which insurance panel they joined.
- Treatment length based on your goals. Self-pay sessions aren't limited by a plan's session caps.
- More control over claims. You decide whether to submit a claim at all, and when. If you do, the claim will include a diagnosis code, so it's worth asking your insurer how mental health claims are recorded.
What if I have no out-of-network benefits?
You can work with me as a self-pay client, with payment due at each session. Many clients pay with an HSA or FSA card. Psychotherapy is generally an eligible expense, but confirm with your plan administrator.
Who can you see as a client?
I see adults, teens, and couples who are physically located in Florida, Pennsylvania, or California at the time of the session, via secure telehealth. Learn more about my therapy services or browse the FAQ.
